1. What are the forums?

   The forums are where our members meet to ask questions, post information, and support each other in various aspects of life as a military spouse or partner. We try to maintain the forums in such a way that each member always feels comfortable, and encourage members to contact staff with any issues relating to the site, or the contents therein. This is to ensure that everyone has a say as part of the community.

   
   

2. Do I have to be a military wife to join the site?

   Definitely not! The forums are for spouses, partners and families of military members, and even those who are simply interested in understanding and supporting the people behind the scenes. We welcome all who are interested, and our forums welcome those who respect the guidelines and have a genuine interest in the Canadian Forces.

3. I don't have an email address, can I still join the forums?

   Unfortunately, you can only join the member forums if you have a valid email address. This measure has been put in place to ensure the comfort of all members of the forums. If you do not have an email address, you can get one for free from such sites as Yahoo or Hotmail.
   

4. Can I sign in to the site using my Facebook account?

   Indeed, you can! We recently added this feature to the site to help our members more easily connect with the members only areas at TMW, when signed into a Facebook account.

   Please contact administration for more details or if you encounter problems with the Facebook sign-in feature.
   

5. I have to do a project about military life for school. Can I ask your members a few questions?

   You are welcome to contact the staff to arrange an interview, but please keep in mind that we do receive a high number of emails and may not be able to work within your schedule. As for interviewing members, staff will notify TMW members with your request if you contact us with specifics by which members may choose to contact you.

    

   TMW does NOT necessarily share the opinions of any of the members herein. Unless express written permission has been granted by the site administrator to do so, any interviewers may not refer to TMW as the source by which the interview was arranged.

6. I'm a reporter, how do I arrange an interview with TMW members or staff?

   You are welcome to contact the staff to arrange an interview, but please keep in mind that we do receive a high number of emails and may not be able to work within your schedule. As for interviewing members, staff will notify TMW members with your request if you contact us, and provide specifics by which members may choose to contact you.

Reporters or interviewers may not refer to TMW as the source by which the interview was arranged, nor may information be collected from the site for use in any publication without the express permission of TMW administration.
   

7. I have a website that I think TMW members should know about. Can I join the site to share the URL?

   Joining the web community at TMW for the sole purpose of advertising for your business will be considered spamming, and any posts containing links to the other site will be removed. Accounts being used solely for the purpose of "plugging" other websites, whether relevant to the objectives of TMW or not, will be considered to have been created with questionable intent and will be removed.

   
   

   That being said, if a well-established member (that has obviously joined the community for support and information, and not to get free advertising for their business) posts a link to another site within a topic or pertaining to something in a thread, that is acceptable.

   
   

   Business owners or website administrators are encouraged TMW administration to suggest and/or arrange link exchanges for relevant websites.
   

8. Can I join the forums? My boyfriend just started BMQ and I don't have anyone to talk to about it.

   Sure thing! Girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives, partners and adult family members are ALL welcome at TMW. We also welcome Canadian Forces members of all elements and trades.
   

   
   

   The purpose of this site is to bring support and information to those special individuals who have the unique task of keeping the home fires burning. If you are 13 years of age or older and have a loved one in the Canadian Forces, you fit the requirements to register as a TMW member.
   

9. My daughter wants to join the site, but the registration won't go through.

   Your daughter is probably under the age of 13, and TMW members must be over 13 to complete registration.
   

   
   

   When signing up as a member at TMW, every applicant is asked to provide their birthdate. Although TMW is a moderated website, we cannot guarantee the content within the forums will be suitable for younger audiences.
   

10. Can we exchange links?

    Every website linked from TMW is first subject to administrative approval and may be removed without notice at TMW administrative's discretion. However, you are welcome to send us the URL, including a description of the site for our use on the links section at TMW. If you have a section wherein you are able to include a link back to TMW, please include that in your correspondance as well.
    

    
    

11. You're doing a wonderful thing with this website. How can I help?

    The Military Wife is a web community serving military spouses, partners and families, created and maintained by military spouses. The staff at TMW serve the members of the site on an entirely voluntary basis and many of the costs incurred with the upkeep, management and improvement are covered by the staff and by the generous donations of our supporters and benefactors.

    The men and women of the Canadian Forces have demonstrated time and again that they will rise to any challenge. Let your Canadian Forces members know you appreciate their service by sending a message using this monitored message board.

     

13. I like the TMW logo, is there a story about it?

    In it's infancy, the website underwent many changes and saw a lot of growth, including the creation of the original red and white maple leaf logo which was created by and copyrighted to JD Anderson in 2006.

    
    

    The colour scheme of the site, which had alternated from blues, greens and even pink, was also changed to red and white in honour of the colours of our nation's flag. The red and white colour scheme also firmly established that TMW was not strictly limited to army spouses, as had been pointed out when the boards were green, but that we support and come from all elements of the Canadian Forces.

    
    

    Shortly after the colour changes were made, the site grew from a small forum to a website and growing community. The logo was created using the letters TMW so that when stacked, the letters can be clearly seen. This is symbolic of the support found within TMW community, where spouses and partners can find help and information from TMW members to better cope with and thrive in the military lifestyle.
    

    
    

    
    

    
    

    
    

Member Forum - Technical Issues

1. I can't access some parts of the site. Please advise.

   All member accounts need to be confirmed and approved by the administration before new members will be able to post in the discussion areas. This process can take some time as each profile must be reviewed by TMW administration prior to approval. Members can more quickly facilitate the transition from limited membership to full membership to access the discussion and other areas of the site by ensuring that the account is completed, with the inclusion of agreement in the "INFO" section.

    

   TMW staff reserve the right to refuse or revoke membership if there is any concern that an individual has the intention of causing trouble within the community, as our primary mandate at TMW is to support military partners, spouses and families. To that end, we ask that all members review his or her profile to ensure agreement to the following stipulation:

    

   ***I agree that in joining as a member I will abide by OPSEC and PERSEC guidelines and will not use any content of this site, including private messages from other members, without express written permission from the administration.***

    

   Account profiles excluding expressed agreement to the above statement risk the member account being limited or removed. This is to ensure a safe and supportive environment for our members and  we appreciate your cooperation.

    

   Steps to adjusting your profile:

   Click: MY PROFILE. Create or adjust your account from your profile page by using the tabs.

    

   Existing Accounts:

    

   At the right of this page you will see a thumbnail of your profile image, your account name and (sign out) as well as Inbox, Edit Profile and Invite.

    

   Choose: EDIT PROFILE. Stay on the main page and scroll to the bottom to adjust your agreement status. You may also wish to make further adjustments from the other tabs on this page; Notification Settings, Edit Account, or Change Password.

    

    

2. I don't have an email address, can I still become a member?

   Unfortunately, you can only join the member forums if you have a valid email address. This measure has been put in place to ensure the comfort of all members of the forums. If you do not have an email address, you can get one for free from such sites as Yahoo or Hotmail.
   

3. Facebook Connect Won't Connect

   If you are having problems connecting with TMW using the Facebook connect application, it may be for one of a few reasons. First, please ensure that you have signed in with your Facebook account. Also, sometimes the world wide web can be a very busy place, so hitting refresh on your browser page may fix the issue. Finally, if the Facebook connect button still won't work, please contact TMW administration are there may be a technical glitch that needs to be investigated.
   

4. I can't sign into the forums. Am I missing something?

   You may have used an invalid email and/or password. Please try again, or try to register with new member account. If you have already signed up, but can't sign in, be sure to click on the "webs" confirmation link in the email (check your spam/junk folders).

   
   

    

5. I am a new member in the forums and noticed one of my posts was changed. I am wondering why this happened?

   The moderators in the forums are careful to edit posts that are reported to them as offensive. It is the job of moderators to ensure the comfort and security of all members, and usually only a post will be edited or deleted ifa staff member deemed it inappropriate.

   
   

   Moderators will also delete posts that are considered spamming, advertising or generally offensive. A moderator will NOT remove a post simply because they disagree with the content or have a differing opinion than that of the person who posted.
   

   
   

   If you ever have a query as to why a specific post was deleted or edited, or if  you have a question that is not covered in the forums, you can always feel free to contact the moderators.

   
   

6. I joined as a member but then I tried to sign in a few months after I joined, it wouldn't work. Help please!

   Malheureusement, vous ne pouvez pas joindre les forums de membre si vous n'avez pas une adresse électronique valide. Ceci est de garantir le confort de tous les membres de TMW. Si vous n'avez pas une adresse électronique, vous le pouvez un obtenir gratis de Yahoo ou de Hotmail.
